May 2016 - The Heritage Foundation has agreed to provide $15,000 to assist with the cost of collecting, age-dating and analyzing sediment core samples from Stony Lake and two other Kawartha lakes. The project is being carried out by Kawartha Lake Stewards Association in partnership with Trent University, Queen's University and Kawartha Conservation. Sediment core samples were collected in the spring of 2016. It is expected that the samples will provide an indication of the extent to which eutrophication has accelerated over the past 200 years. The results are expected to assist in determining realistic mitigation targets and watershed management strategies.
